Malcolm Lester - Managing Director

Malcolm Lester

Malcolm Lester is Managing Director of Lester Franks.  A Licensed Surveyor and Town Planner by qualification, Malcolm has successfully transformed Lester Franks into a leading national business, employing more than 50 professional and technical staff working on smaller through to multimillion dollar projects.

He is a past national chair of both the Association of Consulting Surveyors Australia, ACSA (1999-2001) and the Australian Spatial Information Business Association, ASIBA, (2004-2005) and a past board member of ASIBA. Malcolm is a member of the Tasmanian Spatial Information Council and chair of CSQC Pty Ltd, which provides quality assurance services to the spatial and related industries.

Malcolm has recently been re-elected to the board of the CRC for Spatial Information.

 

Trevor Grant – Executive Director

Trevor Grant

Trevor Grant is a Director of Lester Franks.  A Licensed Surveyor by profession, Trevor is the former Managing Director of Todd Alexander Surveyors, a longstanding South Australian based firm acquired by Lester Franks in 2004.

Trevor has had 15 years serving on the Board of Professional Associations including the Association of Consulting Surveyors Australia (ACSA) as National Chairman, Australian Spatial Business Association (ASIBA) and ACSIS Ltd (formerly the Australian Consulting Surveyors Insurance Society).

Trevor is an Account Manager for Lester Franks and is committed to maintaining and creating new relationships with valued clients across South Australia and Queensland.

Michael Giudici – Executive Director

Michael Giudici

Michel Giudici is a Director of Lester Franks and a Licensed Surveyor. He has worked across the Government Business Enterprise sector and the Private Sector for over 20 years. He has accumulated expertise in complex cadastral and engineering projects and lectures the fourth year University of Tasmania surveying students in Cadastral Studies.

Michael is the President of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI Australasia), the Chair of the Tasmanian Spatial Information Council (TASSIC) and a member of the Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation Board.

He is past Chair of the Tasmanian Region of the SSSI, past convener of the biennial international Spatial Sciences Conference held in Hobart in 2007, and recipient in 2007 of an award for Services to the Spatial Community presented at the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards.

 

Andrew Turner – Non Executive Director

Andy Turner

Andrew Turner is a Non Executive Director who chairs the board of Lester Franks. Andrew is also a Director of Pitt and Sherry, a leading engineering consultancy.  He has many years of experience in a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects based in Tasmania and overseas.

Division Managers

Chris John – Division Manager Devonport

Chris John

Chris John is a Surveyor by qualification. He has worked on major construction sites including the Hong Kong and Sydney International Airports.  Chris joined Lester Franks to manage the survey operations of the Duke Energy Tasmanian Natural Gas Pipeline project and was the Quality Manager when Lester Franks first achieved ISO 9001 accreditation. 

Chris has worked on a range of jobs from archeological digs in Cypress to laser alignment surveys in New Zealand.  Chris is member of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute and a Registered Engineering Surveyor in Tasmania.

 

David Tompkins – Division Manager Launceston

David Tompkins David is the Manager of the Launceston Division. Prior to being promoted to Division Manager, David worked on projects as a Senior Surveyor and looked after project management, topographical, cadastral and engineering surveys.  He was also responsible for development applications, drafting and subdivision design. David was a Senior Surveyor and Project Manager for British Airport Authority projects at Heathrow and Gatwick airports in the UK, prior to relocating to Australia.

David has a National Qualification in Surveying (South Africa) and Graduate Diploma in Highway Engineering (New Zealand). 

David is a Registered Engineering Surveyor (Department of Primary Industries & Water) and a member of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute.

Fred Horvath – Division Manager South Australia

Fred Horvath

Fred Horvath is responsible for the financial management and allocation of technical resources in our South Australian Division.  Prior to Lester Franks purchasing Todd Alexander Fred was the Project Manager for all engineering and construction surveys in Adelaide and the Cooper Basin.

He was responsible for set out and volume control of bulk earthworks, party leader for set out of civil & drainage works.  Fred was the designer of the Morphettville Racecourse redevelopment and Survey Officer for control of pavement tolerances on major highway projects.

Fred is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Mining Surveyors Australia Inc, SA Division and the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute.

Nicholas Davies – Division Manager Melbourne

Nick Davies

Nicholas Davies is an experienced Surveyor, with duties including project management and carrying out terrestrial laser scanner surveys (project experience within both Australia and Overseas).  He is responsible for marketing and client liaison with terrestrial laser scanner surveys and engineering surveys.

Nicholas graduated with a Bachelor of Geomatics with Honours from the University of Tasmania and is a member of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute, Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) and Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA).

Nicholas is an Account Manager for Lester Franks and is committed to maintaining and creating new relationships with valued clients across Australia and Overseas. 

Ross Baylie – Division Manager Townsville

Ross Baylie joined Lester Franks in Townsville in October 2009 as Division Manager.  Ross is an experienced Surveyor with a career spanning over 20 years.  He has a Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) (Major in Land Development) and is a Registered Surveyor with Cadastral Endorsement in Queensland.  Ross is a member of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute.

Prior to Lester Franks Ross was responsible for substantial topographic, detail and engineering surveys for major construction projects including mapping, planning, pipelines, bulk earthworks, major building, civil and infrastructure works.

Sharni McConnell – Division Manager Corporate Services

Sharni McConnell is an experienced Human Resource Consultant; she is responsible for the Corporate Services of Lester Franks including recruitment for our 7 national offices.

Currently undertaking a Bachelor in Business majoring in Human Resources, Sharni has considerable knowledge in developing policies and procedures, business development and the implementation of systems and processes which assists in her role to make Lester Franks an employer of choice.

Sharni is a past board member of the Devonport Chamber of Commerce.
